Sometimes the smallest steps in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tip toe if you must, but take the step.
In early June, I made one of the biggest decision in life and that was to leave my beautiful home country New Zealand to start my new life in Australia with my partner. Not only was it hard enough moving to a different country, but I also left behind everything that I loved and cared for. My family, my friends, my church and my very much loved dog Willow who will be joining us soon.
Making this decision didn't come lightly. Caleb and I (who is my partner) had discussed this earlier in the year around March after our holiday in the Gold Coast. We thought about every single person I cared for and how it will affect them if I leave. I thought about my mum and who was going to help her out at home, my nana and her health problems, not being able to see my baby brother grow up and missing out on all the fun times with my cousins and friends.
I then thought about myself and how I will feel if I made everyone happy but not myself because I wasn't pursuing my dreams.
There comes a time in life when you must leave the nest in order for yourself to grow and learn more about who you are as a person. And that was that. I had to leave because I started to feel comfortable with what I had and I knew there was more out there for me- I just had to go and see it for myself.
So Caleb moved in Mid May and I joined him a month later. Since the move, I managed to get a job within a month for a dining and accommodation club (which I won't mention). I worked there for about a month and then quit because I felt like the job wasn't for me (outbound call centre is not my thing).
Tomorrow Caleb, Elijah (Caleb's brother) and I will be moving to our new house in Gailes. It took us longer than we had hope for but we had a few bumps along the way but are very excited to move.
Moving to a new country, landing a job within a month, and now finally a place to call home within 4 months is more than what I had expected.
Since I have been here I had faced many challenges with work, money, family, self-esteem and motivation. I constantly remind my self whenever I feel like I am going to slack off that I should "keep going. I made it this far why stop now".
What I have learnt since the move is your goals can only be pursed by you (yourself).. Your goals require time, effort, motivation and patience. Every day should be a goal because you want to take a step forward to your dream goal. If you feel like you are still in the same place as you were the day before or the week before, make some changes because change won't come unless you change first.
